White Nitrile Buna N Rubber

White Nitrile Buna N Rubber is used extensively in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing industries. Applications include seals on mixers and kettles as well as conveyor belt scrapers. It’s also used for cushioning and protection, especially on medical equipment due to its softness and flexibility (60 Shore A durometer,) and smooth, easy-to-clean surface.

White Nitrile Buna N Rubber Specifications

Temperature Range: -40° to 220°F
Thickness Range: 1/32” to ¼”
Material Width: 48” rolls, sheets cut to size

Generally referred to as “white nitrile” or “white Buna-N”, this is a sealing material with good abrasion and tear resistance, high elongation and good tensile strength. It has good resistance to most oils, aliphatic hydrocarbons, (methane, propane and ethylene, for example,) and caustics. The working temperature range is an impressively wide -40° to 220 °F.

Limitations include a tendency to take a compression set, poor ozone resistance and general susceptibility to weathering. (These make it unsuitable for outdoor use.)

Buyers often assume white nitrile Buna N rubber is food grade/FDA approved, but always verify this if purchasing for a food, beverage, medical or pharmaceutical application. (The white coloring implies an absence of additives that could taint any product it comes into contact with, but it’s always prudent to check.)

Hennig Gasket & Seals sources FDA white nitrile from several leading manufacturers. It comes in rolls 48” wide and available thicknesses range from 1/32” to ¼”. We will cut to any size sheet upon request.
